The Western Experience The Alamo dictated in Texas was originally named Misión San Antonio de Valero which was named after St. Anthony of Padua. It was built on the banks of the San Antonio River around 1718 which housed missionaries and their Indian converts for almost seventy years. In 1793, Spanish officials took possession of San Antonios five missions and distributed their lands to the locals. In the early 1800s, the Spanish army was stationed at the former mission. Because it stood in a grove of cottonwood trees, they referred to the old mission which became their impertinently fort as El Alamo. This was in honor of Alamo de Parras, their hometown in Mexico. Texas became a procedure of my artless Mexico after the Mexican independency in 1821. This was when the Mexican prexy and General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna abolished the constitution of 1824, and instituted a new constitution to join on the power of presidency. Since the end of the hostiles with Spain 10 years prior, we were eager to receive control back all over Mexico and Texas. This did not settle upright with the colonist of Texas.
